Fourth Grade
Welcome 4th Grade Families,
We are absolutely delighted to have your children in our 4th grade classrooms. We are extremely excited to start this new school year with all of you. We know that this year your child will be challenged, but will grow academically and socially. They will develop new relationships, skills and talents. We are grateful for the opportunity to guide and work with your children as they make these transformations.
Over the last few weeks, as we prepared for the first few weeks and the year to come, our teachers and school leaders have been putting in place plans for building an even stronger school community. We will be using the “Responsive Classroom” model to conduct daily morning and closing meetings that will foster the development of relationships throughout the classroom. We will also continue to follow the CARES model focusing on develop our skills in the areas of Cooperation, Assertion, Responsibility, Empathy, and Self-Control. We also will be adding in "Zones of Regulation" to help students self-regulate to help them engage in the classroom learning.
We will be sending homework packets home every week in Thursday folders that will be due the following Wednesday. The purpose of the work is to allow students to practice the skills being taught in the classroom. We understand the value of your time together as families and we want the homework to be helpful not painful. Work together, do what you can and turn in whatever gets completed. If there are questions on homework, your students can feel free to ask during the day at school for further help.
Feel free to come to any one of us with any of your thoughts, questions, or ideas. Know that you are always welcome in the building and our classrooms. The Heights Community School phone number is 651-293-8815. We also check our emails daily and can be reached at: allison.berger@spps.org, and madelynn.peterson@spps.org
We truly are excited about the year to come,
