Family Engagement Opportunities
Parents are welcome at The Heights at any time. Families are encouraged to engage at The Heights throughout the year in a variety of ways:
- Volunteer (library, classroom, field trips, family events, etc)
- Participate and/or observe in your child’s class
- Communicate with your child’s teacher
- Join PTA. 2025 Virtual Meetings are March 18, April 22 & May 20 at 5:30pm
All volunteers in the building and chaperones on field trips are required by the district to complete an online background check. Background checks are good for one year.
Check with your child/ren's teacher to find out what volunteer/chaperone options are available.
At this time background checks are FREE! Please allow 2 weeks for processing.
- Teachers submit the volunteer's working email address, first and last name to the school's staff contact.
- The staff contact submits those details to the district
- A link is then sent to the volunteer to fill out the background form online.
- The district will email the school's staff contact when the background check is approved.
- The school's contact person will notify the volunteer and the teacher.
Interpreters, childcare and transportation will be provided as needed.
Please call or email Julie Wellman for more details.

PTA has many opportunities during the year for parents to volunteer by helping out with fundraisers, serving food at conferences and family nights, planning the End of Year Celebration, attending PTA meetings, and adding parent input to SCIP/Title I requirements. If you are interested in helping out with any of these projects please contact Julie Wellman at 651-293-8815 or julie.wellman@spps.org.
